18 HP Yanmar (3 cylinder)

Don't remember the model number, but it is the 3 cylinder 18 HP Yanmar, original to the boat. I don't know if it will be gal/hour or hours/gal!

I'm not sure of the specs for the 29.5, but I have a 28.5 that displaces 7100 lbs and is driven by a Yanmar 2GM20F. Fuel consumption is a function of a number of factors like boat design and engine size, but I think weather conditions and rpms are the real drivers. On my boat, for example, my engine uses a pint of diesel per hour running at about 2400 rpms in flat water (and doing about 5.5 kts). In May, I did a 14 hour trip all under power with about 10-12 kts of wind, and 1-2 foot seas, right on the nose. I refueled at the other and used just over 4 gals of diesel, or about a third of a gal per hour. Hope this helps.

The 18 HP is a 2 cylinder. Should be a 2GM20, which got me .3 gallons per hour. Very efficient. The new 3YM30 that I have now, which is a 3 cylinder, gets me about .6 gph. Still good. These numbers are for recommended cruising RPMs.

.5 to 1 gal/hr.

Jim: I only check our consumption on longer trips. There are factors like wind, current and tides to consider. We use anywhere from .5 to 1 gal. per hour. I usually run the engine at 2700-3000 rpms on these longer motoring trips. I am not sure if these other sailors are running their engines at lower RPM's which is not recommended (can cause cylinder glazing).
