Fuel Consumption and wind strenght of a bimini

I have a Hunter Legend 430 1996 with a Volvo MD22L 50hp, 3 blade fixed prop. I am trying to find out if there are any calculations that have been done on this model as to the optimum RPM's for fuel consumption on a long trip (ie fuel consumption curve). Also are there any recommendations on wind velocities of when to remove the spray dodger and bimini on an ocean voyage. I believe they were fitted as an option on the delivery of our yacht new. Therefore Hunter installed or supervised at least. We are planning a trip from New Zealand to Australia and would be grateful for any info on ocean vogages in Hunters.... Cheers Steve

Bimini can handle lots

I have cruised offshore for the last 30 years. Never had a bimini but now I do. I see biminis in our area on power boats that go over 50 mph. I would not think you would have a problem in anything less than a gale. Under Gale conditions you might want to fold the thing up and batten everything down anyway. I have used a dodger under gale conditions and was happy the have it. When the stresses on these things get bad you will notice and they should be easy to fold up and tie securely. I love my bimini as it protects me from the sun and allows me to be confortable during the hottest days here in North Carolina. Good luck on your cruise.
