When I purchased my 1986 Hunter 34 the reported fuel capacity per the previous owner was 14 gallons. Printed Specs I've seen on this web site and in print have stated 25 gallons. Does anyone know if there were other Cap fuel tanks available as options in 86? I'd like to beleave it's 25 gallons but how can I tell without running it out of fuel? Hopeful

Not exact but...

... it will give you some kinda idea. Measure the tank size get the cubic inches. 231 cu. in = 1 gal. This should give you an idea. If you check the posts in the archieves you will see that many owners have replaced the original tanks. I would assume that if your tank is not 25 gals. (as published), your tank is probably a replacement. They may have replaced it with a smaller unit because they could not get a new tank in through the seat opening.

34 fuel

Check the top of the tank for a metal foil stick-on tag which gives capacity.

25 gal

The 1983 34 that I used to have had a 25 gallon tank in it made of plastic, which I believe to be the original tank. SOunds like the two previous replies are on track, too.

20 gal

The capacity of the tank is irrelevent. Th fuel pick-up does not go to the bottom of the tank, so a certain amount (your guess how much) is not available. I ran out of fuel because I trusted the published specs (25 gal). My '83, with plastic original tank, has a bit over 20 gal. available.

H34 fuel 20+ gals.

I measured mine ('83) at a bit over 20 gals - not 25! I was surprised. Derek
