Hey! Anyone going to the boat show in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend? I'll be flying down on Friday, and returning to the snow and rain on Tuesday. I don't even know if this show is for all boats, or just stink-pots.

Miami?

I'm going to the Miami Boat Show on the 17th. It runs from the 17th to the 21st. Strickly sail is at Bayside Miamarina. You can catch a shuttle between the different sites. I normally skip the in-water power show but get over to the convention center for the exhibits. Normally it's a good show. http://www.discoverboating.com/miami/ Bill

A few hints for Miami...

I think you're talking the Miami which includes Strictly Sail at Bayside. Great show, although there are fewer sailboats, that portion is generally much less crowded than Annapolis in the fall. The power boat parts are a gas to see, all these rich folks, and rich wanna be's.... Plan 2 days if you really want to see a lot of the show. 2 day ticket isn't much more than one day. Park in Miami proper, around Bayside or the Marriott, and take the shuttles to the beach for that part of the show. There are some ground lots accross the street from Bayside that have the best rates. Shuttles are included in the ticket price. Parking and traffic to/from/at the beach is miserable and just gets worse as the day goes on. By nightfall it's gridlock. Eat lunch at Bayside, prices are much better than anything over at the beach will be. Convention center is exhausting, way too big and too much walking. See the part at the Marriott. These are in-water powerboats but they are open for boarding and there's always interesting goings on there. This includes Trawer Port. Dockhouse at the marina has snacks and stuff. The in-water brokerage show at the beach is a separate deal, but there's no charge and it's well worth the excursion. Catch a separate shuttle from near the convetion center, down Collins Ave to various drop-off points. Not many of the boats are open to the public, but just walking the docks is an experience. Absolutely beautiful - the docks, the boats, the surroundings, the people... If you are staying in Ft. Lauderdale, there is a water shuttle on Saturdays that runs from FLT to Miami Beach via ocean. Great day trip to see the show. You can find it on the net via the water taxi services down there. TAKE WATER. They charge outrageous $$$ for it. my 2 cents...

Miami it is!

To paraphrase Lincoln: I'd be better off being thought a fool, than putting things in print, and removing all doubt. Hey, I just fly's where they tells me. I'll be in FTL, and the hotels are all booked up for the boat show, so I put two and too together, and came up with orange. Thanks for the tips! I'll have a rental car, and since I'm the Captain, my poor FO will have to look at boats all weekend. "It's good to be the King!"

Where else would I go this weekend

As stated above, there are fewer sailboats that powerboats. The sails and cats are at bayside. Its a nice place for those of you who'm have never been there. Good native food in the area. Last year there sure seemed to be alot more cats than sails.

Ill be at the Strickly Sail section this weekend

I went last year & goggled all the boats. Very nice. There were dozens of sail boats to tour, I was very happy. The indoor section has every device & doodad you could imagine. I didnt attend many talks, i really wasnt there for that. This year i have a cool Olympus E-20 SLR digital camera, so I can take some nice photos. Ill post them on my web site for everyone who cant go. Untill then, here is a photo of one of our beaches:
