Frustrating drip

I removed my jabsco raw water pump and had it serviced last winter. Once I got it back on the boat and sailing season started, I noticed that I had a drip which I thought was comming from the pump. Removed it again and sent it back, they retested and it didn't drip. Put it back on the engine (Perkins M20) and it still dripped. I tested the pump with a garden dose and dead end plug and it didn't leak. I am convinced that the leak is from the hose connection on the pump "out" side nipple. I'v recut the hose end to get to a fresh surface (that's a PITA because the hose has really strong wire inbedded in it) and still have not been able to stop the leak no matter how much I tighten the hose clamp(s). I've tried wrapping the nipple with tape and then putting the hose on, leaked worse. Any suggestions? This is a gear driven pump so belt tension is not an issue. Thanks Bill

Couple of Thoughts

You might try an sealing compound first of all. You can get it at any automotive store. The next thing I would try is a constant torque clamp, the type that is spring loaded normally called a "Breeze" clamp for the original manufacturer of the clamp. Make sure the hose bib on the pump is free from burrs or foreign material. Then apply the sealer and clamp with the constant torque clamp. If this does not work you have a split in the hose, a poor interference fit at the bibb or foreign material that is not allowing the hose to seat. Good luck

happened to me

i had a small diameter hose on my fresh water tank pump. the clamp that i was using was too wide. the mechanism that tightened clamp had a rather large flat area that kept the hose from being completely circular. i replaced that hose clamp with two that were thinner. it solved the problem. check the I.D. of the hose clamp and make sure it doesn't have a flat area under the barrel.

This may sound stupid, but.......

check that the hose size and the output of the pump are the same size. Otherwise, the previous suggestions should correct the problem.
