A lot of you fellows have been very nice and offered some helpful suggestions. If your wondering how I fried the batteries..there are two. We put the boat in the water in May and winterized it in Nov. When spring came, the two batteries were dead. I thought cold weather had gotten then. So, I bought two more. One summer night the lights got dim while dockside and on shore power. One battery actually smoked. So there was 4 batteries gone. I wrote Hunter an E-Mail they claim they never saw. I replaced the charger and two more batteries (6 batteries purchased). My E-mail address is Rswe@aol.com Anyone out there with suggestions or can help I would appreciate.

New Boat ?????

The number of problems suggest that this was a used boat and treated poorly by someone. However, I think you are missing the mark by attacking Hunter. The target is your dealer. I have never heard of Buick providing the hands on solution to a car problem. It is always the dealer that handles such problems. On the other hand, I have successfully treated a number of your problems on my boat without getting an ulcer. Yep the head pump gave me problems, but then I learned how to service it so that it now works easily. The knotmeter quit, but the company that made it replaced it without charge and in a prompt manner. The tank indicater has been replaced. However I expect to be able to use the replacement for some time providing I don't fowl it again with some additive that I've used like vegetable oil, which I did. I had a friend that had to have his rpm meter replaced. He did so and it wasn't difficult to do. Go find your dealer and get him to give you some help. I would assume that win-win solutions are goals for both you and your dealer.

Battery woes

Richard, Sound like the original batteries got ruined by leaving them all winter without a trickle charge occasionally. After that I suspect your battery charger regulator cooked the next set by overcharging. I've had 2 Hunters and both had bad battery chargers from Guest. One didn't slow down the charge to a trickle as the batteries approached full and that'll cook you batteries quickly. The other thing that could cause the problem is the internal regulator in your alternator. It might be putting out full charge all the time when you are running your engine causing over charging. Due your batteries always seem to need distilled water, if so you can be sure that your getting to high a charge rate. My batteries on a well regulated charging system need water only once a season although they are checked every month. As for things like guages not working etc. mine were all replaced under warranty and once replaced have functioned properly ever since. Good Luck Bob Knott
