In my response to the VHF radio post I mentioned that I'd just purchased a pair of FRS radios for casual use. I plan on using them between shore and my boat, from boat to dinghy. Do you have a pair? How do you use them?

I just bought a set of GRS radios...

These are similar to FRS, except that you get more channels (15) and a longer range (5 miles). You do need an FCC license for these. I got these to help with anchoring, ship-to-shore party communications, etc. Similar to a cell phone, but don't need to worry about coverage. Les Murray s/v Ceilidh 86 C-36 #560

I use them

Bob, I use a pair for comms between shore and boat, dinghy and boat, etc. They are most useful during anchoring - my wife at the wheel, me at the bow, and we use voice activated headsets with the FRS radios to communicate from the cockpit to the bow. People have commented about our ability to anchor without yelling and gesturing. Little do they know that all that occurs via radio. Rodney Kidd C-38 #297, Flying Bear

Great Item !

The FRS radios are perfect for what they were intended, i.e., short range communications. And, because the cost is low, they easily added to the boats list of equipment. We find them most useful in talking between bow and helm, or bow
