On my '81 hunter 27, I have a set of turning blocks at the base of the mast. The mast and jib halyards pass thru these blocks to the clutches on the cabin top. The jib turning block is frozen...any ideas on how to resolve? I think it's a kenyon mast. Thanks Craig

Other than replacing it?

If you can take it apart and clean it out and lube it with something like a dry lubricant that would probably be best. If you can't then try shooting some penetrating oil into it and give it time to work it's way in.

frozen blocks

I used Sailkote dry lube. You can buy it at West Marine. It has worked on all of my problems on my 1971, 22' Venture. Novelman

Try soaking the block with vinager

and leave it for around 20 minutes and rinse with fresh water. Repeat process about three times and then soak block with penetrating oil and leave overnight then work the halyard up and down under tension and see if it releases. The blocks usually get frozen with exposure to the salty air; a salt remover or vinager may do the trick. If not apply a generous amount of silycone lubricant to the halyard so it slides easy over the block. I would not take down the mast just for that.

You can buy one ...

from Kenyon for about $180. Getting the SS screws un-frozen from the mast is a whole nuther problem, though. *o
