lots of green corrosion on the outside
I understand the words, but not sure of the perspective.
If I felt there was corrosion that might affect the valve, I would have a plug ready to insert into any hole created to stop the water incase of a break.
I had a valve that had a "little corrosion on the surface". Being a bit conservative, I elected to pull the boat and have it hang over night. When out of the water we went to work trying to remove the valve for a new through hull. The valve broke into two pieces in my hand.
Here are a couple of pictures to show what I mean.
This one shows the old thru hull and valve in place.
It is functioning normally. OPENS AND CLOSES EASILY.
I note that the base, looks suspect. That would be the thru hull not the valve.
So I thought I needed to remove the valve and replace the thru hull.
Then I could reattach the valve.
This is the valve that I thought was good. The valve had internal corrosion.
It was ready to fail. Even though the valve was opening and closing,
the upper portion was total gone. It came apart in my hand as I tried to turn it.
I was very happy to be out of the water when this happened.
Be careful with this project. I got lucky.
Bought a lottery ticket. Not so lucky..
All my luck was consumed by the boat.
