This is very low on my list of "projects", however, I was wondering if anyone else had problems with the front cabin door closing. Mine appears to have never actually closed right from the factory! It is about 1/2" too big to fit in the jamb. I'm not sure how Hunter quality control could miss something this odvious. Maybe the original owner got a discount for a "damaged" boat. Most likely not.

Is your compression post beam also squished?

The front cabin door will no longer fit if the compression post beam is crushed from the weight of the mast. The hull gets pushed around and things change. My web site has a couple of pictures of the repair I did to the beam. Or you could just plane your door. P.S. Opps, sorry Brad, I didn't see that it was you again. Why don't you drive up here with a list of things you want to do to your boat, or bring the boat, and we can go over them together?

Common Problem

On my h34 the compression post never failed but the front cabin door needed "adjustment" several times during my ten year ownership. It worked properly when I got it but I had to trim the width twice to allow it to close. Something changes and moves and it was not a seasonal effect from being stored in a cradle. Get your circular saw out and cut it

I had to do that too,

I cut the hinge side of the door, so as not to mess with the latch assembly. BTW the door I cut is not at the compression post, it's the door to the V berth. John

Mine too.......

....the jointery work in the v-berth seems to have moved around a bit. Maybe from a grid flex?

won't shut in winter

Mine quit shutting when it got cold outside. Gonna wait till warmer air and see what happens before I go to using the old planer. Tim Welsh Hunter 34 (AKA) Cabo Wabo

Plane it

My '86 34 had the same problem. I planed it from the hinge side to avoid messing up the latch. You'll have to re-mortise the two hinges.
