big money at stake, so big money comes to the rescue. From the moorings today.

It is encouraging to report that recovery is well underway at our Moorings and Sunsail bases. While many of our dedicated staff have personally suffered significant losses, they continue pushing forward to rebuild their communities and restore charter operations. We could not be more proud of their courage and resilience.

As a result of their efforts, our Puerto Rico and BVI operations will reopen on December 9, 2017, and St. Martin is scheduled to open on February 1, 2018. The Moorings and Sunsail anticipate having over 100 yachts ready for charter over the holiday season. Additionally, 130 brand new yachts will be arriving in 2018, representing an investment of $66.5 million.

Luxury car companies reaped a windfall in NJ & NY as thousands of luxury cars were totaled and replaced in the aftermath of Sandy. These hurricanes tend to bring an economic boom in some cases. You would not believe the beach town shack colonies that suddenly turned into brand new multi-level, modern, luxury vacation shore homes in many areas. It's nice to think that insurance companies foot these economic booms, and perhaps it is insurance that pays for new yachts. But more often, I have the feeling, it is the taxpayer who makes this happen (and the folks who pay higher insurance premiums).
Of course the islands don't have these same economic circumstances and hurricanes bring TRUE hardship to most of the residents. Hopefully, getting back to the tourist industry asap is helping these people.
