I have a cold Machine that stoped geting cold .It sounds like the fan is runing but the compressor is not .I tryed testing for power at the 10 amp fuse there was power but seemed low .I had no volt tester . Is there a way for me to test to see if the compressor is runing I dont no if i have a mechenical problem or elec. The manufacturer tells me i could send it out to them for a fix but its a big job geting it out what do you think .

See if compressor it hot

When I had problems, I could put my hand on top of the compressor and feel it running. It gets warm/hot when running. My problem is a freon leak. The freon goes low and the compressor runs continuously without keeping the box cool. Leak is most likely in the condensor/tubing, not the compressor. Sending that out won't really work. And, my refer guys says that once you uncouple the "reusable" couplings, they rarely seal completely again. I will be interested to see what your problem is.

Are your batteries fully charged?

If not, the compressor will not run, clean the connections, make sure of a full charge. Good Luck!

Check the Compressor By Feel

We have a Grunert refer. If you place your hand on the top of the compressor, it'll feel warm to the touch and it'll be vibrating when running. With just the fan on, you likely have a failure in the control module that operates the system in response to thermostat settings. Unless you have great diagnostic tools and skills and a schematic, you'll be better to call a service technician who can swap out the faulty module.

Ways to check compressor

Place your hand on top of the compressor and feel the vibration, it is very slight so make sure you do not have other devices on the same shelf that are operating. The compressor when working will get warm/hot to the touch. If the fan is running and you are sure the compressor is not running it will be one of two things. The batteries are low or the electronic module has failed. To test if your batteries are low start your engine and raise the rpm's to around 1,000. Make sure the transmission is in neutral and the boat is well secured. After 15 minutes of running the engine at this speed turn on the refrigeration system. Your house battery should have received enough charge to start the refrigerator. If the compressor does not come on then you should remove the electronic module and return to the factory for inspection. There is not a need to remove the compressor unit from the boat. The couplings on the older systems, built before January 2001, are resealing couplings and will hold the refrigerant in the tubes. This allows for removal of the system without loss of refrigerant.
