I noticed the sound of antifreeze going into the bilge when I attempted to winterize the fridge drain hose and pump. Upon further examination, I discovered that the hose was no longer connected. The drain connector on to which the hose was clamped had broken off in the hose. This is a very difficult to reach connection without removing the cabinetry. Has anyone managed to solve this problem? Where did you get the replacement part from and how did you mange to reinstall it?

Hi Gerard
Cant help you but as a B393 owner I sympathise.
When we bought the boat even the dealer couldnt work out how to drain the fridge. We all thought the pump and outlet in the sink was a salt water inlet. :)

I had the same problem on my 331. Not sure how close they are but i'm sure it's the same defective plastic fitting that failed. I just could not cope or see how to yank all of that nice woodwork out.

In my port sail locker i have a panel that I can get to the back of the cooler. You still can't get to the fitting but you need to look. Maybe on yors you can? If not I havje good fix but too long to explain and you may be able to get to from behind.

Let me know what you find. If need be I could walk you through my fix.

Good luck.

Hi Craig

okay, I'll bite, how difd you get at the drain?

Gord
Gord,
That's the rub. I entered behid the cabinet via the port sail locker. You know the one that you fit an elephant in. Same one that tends to collect more crap then I'll ever need :)

Anyway there is a real neat flush palel that if revoved exposes another "secret" compartmrnt dead astern of the microwave and cooler.

I then used a 4" hole saw to open up an access hole for my arm. No luck. There is a second plywood panel on the bottom of the cooler. There did not seem to be any way at the broken fitting out.

So.....my solution for what is worth.

The inside diameter of the original fitting is about 1". The diameter of 3/4" hose is little over 1" and after drilling out the broken plastc necked doen area the tube slips right in.

I then slipped a barbed fitting over the end to act as a flage an make th OD of the hose even slightler larger just at the end. I applied some 5200 sealant and pushed the hose through the drilled oy drain unil it was nice and flush. Then let it dry.

I cut original hose accessable in the port locker an d spliced in the new hose. Works perfect!!

Much harder to explain then do. Esp. With no photos.

I would be happy to talk any one through on yhe phone, much clearer then this poor attmpt.
