Fridge dead?

So, coming out of winter my trusty fridge started freezing everything solid such as water bottles. I turned the knob setting down to 4or5 and now after a week it stopped working altogether. There is power to it but the compressor is not drawing any current. Any thoughts? Maybe just a switch?

What type of refrigerator? Does it a "spill-over" system (i.e., the freezer "leaks-out" air and cools the box?

Could be a burned-out compressor (since it may have running constantly) -- or it could be the controls (e.g., thermostat).

You can try and "jump" the thermostat -- if it's an analog one, it's easier.

But let's start with the what, and who made it, and what model. Then you can get some information to see.

Just went thru this with my NovaKool. Their site has troubleshooting tips to bypass the tstat, and even what the compressor windings should read. Try your oem site.

OK captains:

I pulled the fridge. It's a NovaKool R3800 series fridge. After taking it out and setting it up temporary on the cabin floor I could get it to run by jumping the t-stat. Pulling 5 amps and running well. After jostling it around a bit it looks like the t-stat will operate the compressor for a just few minutes and then it cuts off. It will continue to run when I jump it. Thankfully only $30 vs $1,000. I will order a new t-stat.

Thanks so much.

Of you let it run continuously while jumpered does the line get cold? Mine would run with the new tstat but all the Freon had leaked out. Had to fix the leak, evacuate and recharge. Installed a new dryer too.

Install one of those electronic t'stats while you're at it. They are great.
