Brake Maintenance Kit
John - If the Cat27 is like my 28, you have an Edson Pedestal and the "Friction Knob" is called a Wheel Brake. Kits are available to rebuild these, as well as the other pedestal components, from WestMarine, BoatUS and directly from Edson. The BoatUS price is $33.99, Edson direct price is $35.00. Mine is a 1991 and still works well, so I guess it's like a car - the more you use the brake(s) the more often they need to be rebuilt.
