We are proud new owners of Catalina 28 MkII who have some questions about the freshwater system. We don't get any water out of our taps. Both the bow and starboard tanks have water in them, the valves are open on both and the water pressure is switched on. We have not turned on the water heater. When a cold tap in either the galley or head is opened we get nothing. We don't hear the pump running either. However, if we switch the shower sump on, then open a tap we hear the pump AND get water pressure. What gives? Any ideas? Does the water heater have any bearing on this?

28 cat water system

This sounds to me like the wire to the water pump is on the shower breaker. Remove the electrical panel and see if the wire is missing on the water pump breaker. I have a 91 Catalina 28 and have had to redo the water heater, both water valves and remove some corrosion on the electrical panel. Don't be afraid to open things up and check them out. I have learned a lot that way.

New boat bugs

I am not sure if your 28MkII system is the same as our C310 system, but we also found several wires crossed when checking out our new boat. We had to move 3 wires on the electrical panel to get the right lights to come on when throwing the anchor, deck, and running lights. The shower sump pump and the fresh water pump are both located under the galley sink on our boat, it is possible that the connections could be wrong at this point on your new boat, which could explain your water problem symtoms. Best to use a volt meter and see where your power is going when you throw each switch.
