Peggy, I recently purchased an '81 30. The freshwater pump seems to be giving up the ghost. Pressure is built but when release the pump does not come on for some time. On the hot side, it retains pressure but the cold side does not. the pump is a shurflo 220. I don't know its age. Looks pretty old. It has two setys of wires on it, the power and not sure what the other set is for. I haven't traced them doen yet. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the pressure sensor is failing

And maybe the diaphragm and pressure valve too. Those are inexpensive and easy to replace, but the sensor is not...I'd just replace the pump and be done with it.

My 1979 Shurflo.

I just replaced my 1979 pump(H37C). The rebuild kits are no longer made for the pump that I have. But you can check on the Depco site(Related Link). The replacement pump is 'SF2088-423-344', cost was $75. My boat has 5/8" hose for the plumbing. But the pump came with 1/2" hose fittings. I had to call Depco and get two 5/8" connectors for $4.30. While I was at it I ordered the Jabsco strainer with 5/8" connectors to put between the tank and the new pump, another $15.

Thanks Peggy and Ed....

for your input. I don't know how the post got this forum. I originally posted it in the expert forum. Oh well! Gotta love technology. I thought the same about the sensor. But where do the wires go to?

Got it done....

Replaced the pump with shurflo aquaking with 3.3 gpm. As it turns out the extra set of wiring is to route power to the pressure switch to give it control. the pressure switch was bad. New pump works great. Old pump works fine without pressure switch so I bypassed the pressure switch and will use it to make a wash down for the boat. You are correct about the accumulator tank. There is not one. The boat does have hot water and the "T" is located just downstream of the pump. The shurflo 220 must be the original pump that came on the boat. I looked for it also on the net and the shurflo web site and found no reference to it either. So I used the gpm rating ont the 220 to determine the replacment. Current models go from 2.8 gpm to 3.3 gpm with nothing in between. I figured in this case more was better. Now to get what I need to make the washdown. That will be nice to have. Thanks for your help.
