Freshwater Pump Runs Continuously

Hi,

I would appreciate any suggestionns on solving the following problem with my 2011 Hunter 39: The freshwater pump runs continuously, even with both batteries and all DC switches in the off positions. The red wire to the pump remains 'hot." Yesterday I cut it and the pump stopped. As an interim solution I will install an in-line switch, but I would like to solve the problem of the red wire remaining hot at all times.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
JD

If it runs continuously it's likely the pressure switch has failed or the tank is empty. If the circuit is hot even with the breaker off then you should trace the wire back to its source and see why it's still getting power. They might be 2 separate problems.

I am assuming (I really do not like to do that) that this is a new issue???

So I must ask, what has changed? What has happened? A hot lead does not magically happen "both batteries and all DC switches in the off positions"

Have you completed wiring modifications?

Has a contractor completed wiring modifications?

Possible power surge, spike, or lighting strike? That would be hot enough to melt switch and breakers but not trip them.

Are you backfeeding from thru the neutral?

Take a deep breath. Grab your multimeter and a wiring diagram and start tracing the circuit out. Start at the pump and work backwards.

Best I got. Good Luck.

My water supply line to the pump got plugged and did the same thing. Most likely yours is starving. Or if you have an accumulator, maybe it's bad.

sounds like you have 2 issues to solve…

1)why does the pump want to run all the time…
a leak somewhere, no water in the tank, plugged line, bad accumulator,,etc.

2) Why CAN the pump run all the time, when the power is of…
Do you have a breaker on the DC electrical panel for “Water Pressure” or “Water pump” or something similar?
Can you trace the wire from the pump towards the electrical panel? Where does it go?
Or to the battery? That would be weird, but who knows.

I was snooping around my electrical panel this summer, and I was tracing the wires for the 3 USB connections on my boat. I had a breaker for the USB plugs, but 1 of them was wired to the refrigerator breaker. I assume that way the PO had one breaker he left on (to keep the beer cold), and he could charge his phone on the 1 USB plug that was also “always on”.
