Hello What would anyone suggest to use to keep the fresh water tank fresh? I have 13 Gal flexiable. So far I have no problem, I use about 1/2 each weekend and refill. So there is movement of the water through the tank. I just can't help to think there is somethiongf I should be doing to keep it fresh. Thanks

Keith, if it's omly 13 gals, then it may not be a problem to empty it when you are done on the weekend and then fill 'er up when you are ready to go. I carry 70 gals and it stays pretty fresh each week. I went out last weekend and it had been 3 weeks and all was OK. I will usually test it by running it into my hand and smell it as it is running. If I sense any different smell, then I will drain it and refill.

A tablespoon of chlorox helps
Even though dockside water may be pumped in from a chlorinated source, it helps to add a tablespoon of liquid chlorox to your tank (13 gallons) everytime you fill up. The chlorine will keep your tank bacteria free and should not be odorous. Chlorine will dissapate and come out as a gas through the tap from the aggitation/motion of the boat. It works well to keep the water system fresh and dissenfected. Bob

I shut off the raw water intake for commode. Use only a gallon jug of fresh water, drawn from the taps on board. This cycles fresh water while preserving the lines of the head from raw water.

Bill, I'm confused...unless you have a VERY small water tank, how does drawing off just one gallon of water help to keep the fresh water supply fresher longer? The rest of the water is just gonna sit in the system. Bill, adding even just a little more bleach to every fill of water that's already chlorinated cuts the lifespan of an aluminum tank and the rubber parts in your water pump in half. An annual recommissioning with bleach uses a very strong solution, but it's complete flushed out of the system within hours...the small amount added to each fill stays in the system.
