Fresh Water Tank

1999 Hunter 260, How much of the tank is usable? By this I mean, can the hand pumps get to all but, how many inches of the bottom of the tank? On my Baums Rush, I can only get to about 3-4 inches from the bottom of the tank. Question two... My tank is held down with two plastic straps that are loose, should I be concerned?.. seems to me that in any type of ruff weather it will bounce around, even with the weight of a full tank?

Depends on where the outlet fitting is

The higher it is, the more water will remain in the tank...'cuz once the water level drops below the top of the of the outlet fitting, the pump starts to suck air and loses prime. As for the loose straps, if the tank hasn't moved yet, it's prob'ly not going to. But if you'd feel more comfortable if the straps were tight, tighten 'em.

Can't use all of it in any tank.

John:Regardless of the tank you cannot use all of the water unless the tank would have a fitting comming out of the bottom of the tank. Once the pump starts sucking air, it is pretty much over.I would try to secure the tank the best you can. When it is FULL it is not going to move very much (8lbs/gal). If you cannot tighten these straps, you may want to consider wedging some foam around the tank to keep it tight.Are these straps adjustable?

Dumb me, I had thought that maybe the tank had an internal feed pipe below the feed connection on the tank, guess not. But it sure would have made sence to make the feed connection on the bottom of the tank by making a hole thru the tank platform. Thanks for the help!!!

Nope, it wouldn't have...

Over time, fresh water tanks collect a considerable amount of sediment. If the discharge fitting were in the bottom, you'd need a strainer that would require constant cleaning to prevent that sediment from clogging up the line between the tank and the water pump and/or the pump itself. Although your discharge MAY be a little higher that it has to be, that you can't get the last inch out is actually a blessing.However, you shouldn't even be running your tank down low enough to starve the pump on a regular basis anyway. Repriming is hard work for the pump, wears it out faster than normal use.
