My fresh water tank needs to be flushed and I don't want to stand there and pump the the faucet handles for an hour to drain the tank. Anyone have a good soulution for draining the tank? If electric, I have a 12v system. Thanks for your help.

Pump It Up

Use the same method you would use to drain the oil from your engine. Put a hose down the fill hole and use either a pump that attached to an electric drill, or the more expensive tools used to change your engine oil.

Just did it

I just did that this weekend. I don't know what kind of model you have. I have a 1974 Hunter 25. I unclamped the hose and streched it towards the bilge. It was about three inches short. I just let it drain into the bilge. Then I got out the ole hand bilge pump, and pumped it out as it drained. Whole job probably took 10-15 minutes. It was so easy I plan on doing it more often. If you don't want your floor to get wet, just get a small extension. I also didn't check if you could drain it down the hull to the bilge from the back side of cabinet. Either way, very easy. Have fun.

Don't do it!

I pumped mine by hand. It took forever. I will never fill it to the top again. Try siphoning it. After all it's fresh water.

Good excuse to clean the head...

Assuming you have a built-in head with y-valve, having to shed water would be a good excuse to do some cleaning in there and flush it all out the through-hull to make sure the passage is clear (what? you never use your holding tank anyway? shame!)

RE Fresh water pump out

If you have access to the top of the tank(s) get a large diameter plastic tubing and siphon it out. I do this with my salt water fish tank and 50 gallons takes less than a minute. If you don't have access get a drill pump attachment and feed it down the filler pipe and pump away.

Depending on your fill and overflow.....

Bob: Depending on your fill and your overflow, you can treat the tank (ie: bleach) and then put the fresh water hose in the tank fill. Then you can just let the water run until all of the bleach water is out of the tank. We commonly let the water run in/out of our tank this way each time we fill our tank.

I use the tap

I always put this off because I think it will take forever. It takes less time than it does to drink a beer (I'm pretty good at that and that's what I do with my free hand while I pump the faucet). I can do Peggy's recommisioning routine in no time at all, and it's nice to have clean water available.

easy flush out

On my H260 , with manual hand pumps and overflow, the spring time flush out is simple, I just run the fresh water into the tank , it builds up enough presure to free flow through the check valves on the pumps and out the overflow. after 10-15 min I pump out by hand add bleach to clean the tank and reflush again using the same process.
