Fresh water system Yanmar 3gm30f w/subtank

I have drained the coolant in the fresh water system our Yanmar 3gm30f.

I supplied new coolant by filing up to the mouth of filler port on the heat exchanger and to the minimum level of the subtank.

After the supply of new coolant I ran the engine in idle for about 30 minutes.

When opening the fillercap on the heat exchanger I noticed that the coolant level had decreased whereas the level in the subtank had increased to between minimum and maximum.

I recall that the level in the subtank was at the minimum mark and the level in the heat exchanger up to the mouth of the filler cap before I drained and supplied the system with new coolant.

So I am wondering if something is wrong now

run it again with th cap on for a while and then shut it down and let it cool down for a while and check it again...you dealing with heat expansion and contraction here and you also haven't said if the coolant runs through a hot water heater ...you may have an air pocket in the heater flow ....go with that and see what happens ...also look for signs of coolant leaks in the bilge while in there ....good luck.....

Thank you for your reply.

Coolant does run in hoses to a water heater.

So yes there could be airpockets in the system.

Do you know if there is a trick to bleed the system for air (the subtank us the highest point on the system )

Once the engine is cold, you could remove the cap on top of the heat exchanger, start the engine and let it run a short while without the cap, looking at the antifreeze in it, checking for air bubbles. Once no more bubbles, refill to normal level, put cap back on and try again. Good luck
