Fresh water system troubleshooting

My fresh water system is giving me a problem with water just dribbling out of the faucets. The Shurflo 2.8 gpm pump motor sounds good and if I let it build up pressure there is momentary good water flow, but it soon goes back to just a trickle. How can I determine if the whole unit needs replacing or it is just the diaphram? Thanks, Bruce Catwalk - H34

Make sure water tank has enough water in it.

Just a thought, but is your water tank filled above the pump intake? It could be at a level where it's sucking in air and water and this will only give you a trickle. Make sure there's enough water for it to work properly. Does the pump motor shut off? That is, is the pressure switch working? If not this can be a problem. Check your in-line filter between the tank to the pump. Make sure it isn't clogged. If it is, take it off and wash it clean.

also check the strainer.

Bruce: Our H'31 has a strainer just about where it leaves the tank. You may want to check it out for particulate matter too. Does not sound like you really have a pump problem but who knows.

Sink strainer

Check all strainers, including the one at the sink spout. If the pump shuts off, the problem is in another location. Do you have another faucet, and is it working?

you may have an air lock...

I recently went threw this with mine, it had an air lock. I had to overfill the water tank and I had to undo the connections at the pump for a few moments to let the air out so the pump actually could get a grip so to speak on water. After doing this, everything was just fine. Good luck.

Plugged

Had a similar problem and could not believe what was causing it. There was a piece of Saran like material in the water tank and it would move at times and plug the exit pipe. If your pump is pumping enough to build up pressure to a point where it will shut off, you have a restriction somewhere. Plugged screens or filters. Start with the source, the line coming from the tank.
