MacGregor 26 Magog, QC
I own a MacGregor 26X, the trailer is not galvanized. Looking at ramps, I noted one near King George VA, named "Hop Yard Landing". This is on the Rappahannock River. There is a 2 to 3 ft tide there, but this site is located at least 25 Nautical Miles from the big bay. Is this ramp in fresh water?
If not can someone recommend a ramp that is not in sea water?

If it's tidal, then it's probably at least brackish. Check out http://www.chesapeakebay.net/maps.aspx?menuitem=15165 for salinity map. Example attached.

The Rappahannock in that area is 'mostly' fresh water ('brackish') but the salt content will depend on how 'dry' or 'rainy' the weather has been previous to your launching and how much water from upstream is moving in the Rapp.

A few immersions in salt water are not going to be a problem, just use a hose and wash it down with fresh water, and the 'wash' doesnt have to be immediate. ;-)

The Perryville, MD area ramps on the Susquehanna River are on drinkable fresh water and only six miles from open water on the bay. These are only about 2 miles from Interstate 95.

As others have said, salt is not that big a deal. Grease on the contacts and rinse when done. Special attention to the INSIDE of the frames.

However, in general the Chesapeake is nearly fresh from the Sassafras River north. The lower rivers are salty way up.

Actually, the Bay north of Worton Creek/Poole's Island is mostly fresh/brackish, depending on the volume of water flowing down the Susquehanna and the amount of tidal scrubbing caused by wind and moon. The lack of sea nettles (jellyfish) is relative proof.

When I take my Sea Doo to Charleston, SC I stop at a fresh water ramp on the way home, back the boat trailer into the water and run the engine for a few minutes to flush trailer, boat, and engine.
