HELP! I TRIED TO GET WATER AT THE GALLEY SINK WHEN I WOKE UP MONDAY MORNING AND GOT A LOT OF PRESSURE SURGES. THOUGHT IT MIGHT JUST BE AIR IN THE SYSTEM BUT FINALLY CONCLUDED THAT MORE WAS WRONG. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, I NOTICED THE PUMP WAS STILL RUNNING EVEN WITH THE VALVES TURNED OFF. FINALLY SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM FROM THE POWER PANEL. ASSUMING THAT THE PUMP (IT'S THE ORIGINAL) IS BAD, ANY ADVICE ON REPLACING IT? I.E. CAN THE "AVERAGE" SAILOR REPLACE IT HIMSELF; WHO CAN I ORDER ONE FROM; IS IT BETTER TO JUST HAVE THE OLD ONE REPAIRED. ARE THERE DIFFERENT SIZES, BRANDS, COLORS???

Water Pumps

Not sure of the age but you can get a new pump at West Marine for around a $100.00. I am convinced you can do it yourself. It will take longer than planned everything does). If you haven't done much on your boat before you will learn a lot about your boat. Good Luck. Waine

before you buy ...

... a new pump be sure and check for leaks in the pressurized lines. The quickest check is to shut off your bilge pump and pressurize the system and let it sit for an hour or so. Then check the bilge, taste it if you must. I thought I had a leaky packing gland but the water was sweet, not salt, and was coming from a bad connection. Fixed that, now the hot water heater leaks. But my pump is still good. Then again, a spare pump is always handy.. Good luck. Sanders

Easy change out.

Eddy: It is an easy change out. I just did one in about 20 minutes. The biggest deal was re-splicing the power leads again. I got one of the Flo-jet VSD pumps from Camping world. It was about $155. I have got to tell you that it is very quite. I happened to have another model of a Flo-jet in the boat so I did not even have anything to change. Even used the old fittings on the new pump. I saved the new stuff for a future replacement if I need them.

empty water tank

I would make sure you have water in the tank first.

Sounds like...

... a classic sympton of a leak in the system somewhere. A leak causes the same demand on the pump as an open faucet and the pump will continue to run. Good luck..... Jeff

Thanks for the Tips

Thanks for your inputs, guys. I'll check for a leak in the system first. I'm glad to know that replacing the pump,if I have to, isn't such a bad job. Regards, Eddy
