Fresh water pressure issues

Maybe my water tank gauge is not working properly. Maybe my water tank is empty showing 3/4 full on gauge. I have a 75 gallon water tank. I guess I need another way to measure when I use up 75 gallons of water. To me 75 gal. is like filling up two 33 gal. trash cans with water. I'm thinking it would take while and appears to me I'm only filling up 25 to 30 gallons. But I could wrong. Any ideas anyone?

Get two 33 gal. trash cans. Fill them with water and pour them into your tank. :>)

Obviously air is being pulled in ahead of the pump, so you're going to have to do some troubleshooting to find out where. Any fitting and the filter are possibilities. Since it's related to the water level in the tanks, I would suspect the leak to be at or above that level. The static head pressure from the tank would keep water at the tank water level, and when the level drops, air might be pulled in a fitting above that level.

I'd start by disconnecting the line at the tank and see if water comes a gushing. If not, things are plugged there. Get plenty of water there? Then see if the pump will draw from a bucket without air getting in. Keep the water source as low the tank level. From this point it's trial and error until you isolate the problem.

Appears Hunter didn't make an easy access to water tank outlet line. LOL
Attached are photos of this wonderful access. I would have to cut another hole in that wood veneer under V- berth to access connection. Maybe I will take someone's suggestion and turn pump around to blow air towards the tank. Pump is only about 6 ft from tank. And pretty close the same level as tank outlet line.

Get a bucket at least 2+ gallons. Turn on the water source and time the bucket to fill. A landlubber 1/2" Garden hose, wide open, will fill a 5 gallon bucket in 1 minute. This will give you the hose flow rate.
Time your tank fill with that hose.

What was the rated capacity of your new pump?

Watch you tank gauge as time the pump out with all water valves open.

I wonder if it is truly a 75 gallon tank! 75 gallons is a 55 gallon drum plus twenty more gallons, I don't think there is enough space under the V-berth for a tank that large!

The Hunter 376 sales brochure says 75 gallons. FriscoRon's pictures in post #43 looks like a water tank and water piping under a V-berth.

I have to admit I am surprised there is no easy access to his water level sensor.

Hi Jim,
I ordered the hose water meter. My water tank sensor is easy to get to too. I can remove the V- Berth cushions and see it. |It's the water tank outlet piping that is hard to get to. In case there is any blockage. But I will check the capacity of the water tank first.
I already replaced waste holding tank sensor. Maybe it's the water tank sensor showing wrong reading. |I will find out!
And thanks everyone for all of your input. |I will figure this out sooner or later and will let all know if don't pull my hair out first.

I pulled my OEM Wema water float sensor. I move it up and down the shaft, worked great. Put it back in the tank.
DIDN'T work!

I finally tested the float sensor in a bucket of water.
The float didn't float!
It had lost it coating (my guess from too much clorox sanitizing by the PO.) The new Wema float has a different float.

Jim,
Glad the new wema float sensor did the trick. I'm curious. Did you have to get a new wema gauge to be compatible with the new wema sensor?

I solved my fresh water pressure issue. It was not a water pressure issue after all. JamesG161 gave me a link to buy garden hose flow meter at Amazon. It was cheap about $10.
1) My faucet started spurting air out with my tank gauge showing 3/4 full. I attached hose flow meter to hose bib to garden hose. My water tank is 75 gallons. I filled my tank up until water started coming out of vent. I read the hose flow meter. It displayed 76 gallons. BINGO!!. It's got to be my water tank gauge showing wrong reading.
2) It was easy an access to water tank sensor. Underneath V-Berth cushions. I slide the float down the end of the 1/2" plastic sensor tube. Tank gauge is suppose to read "0". It showed 3/4 full. I slide the float back up the tube. Gauge showed full tank. The right reading. Hmmm......
3) I noticed at the end of the sensor tube there was a bit of water film build up. (water deposits, calcium, what ever!) I was thinking of sanding the tube clean but I had no sand paper. I decided to use some Goof-Off to clean the bottom of the plastic tube. It took 5 seconds. I slide the float down to the bottom of the tube. Gauge showed "0" reading. Bingo!!!
4) Appears bottom of water tank sensor tube needed to be cleaned from water deposits.
5) I replaced a perfectly good 19 year old Shur-Flow water pump, I pulled my hair out looking for water leaks. Thanks everyone. I learned a lot.
Moral of the story! Check the easy stuff first. LOL

My 14 year old Wema float did same.
I finally put the sensor in a bucket of water....
The float SANK!

The $50 replacement has a new float coating to prevent water logging the float.

Jim,
Float was not water logged. It was the water deposits on the end of the sensor tube. I removed the water deposits with goof-off. I guess the water deposits on the tube prevented conductivity between float and tube. Hard to believe that conductivity between water tank sensor plastic tube and float was that sensitive.
