I chewed into the 3/8" ID plastic fresh water pipe w/a hole saw so I need to repair w/a union. Does anyone know what material this is? Valves are Qest. I find tubing of this type as PEX, polybutylene, cpvc, etc. I think the PEX fittings are simple. From what I can tell, you need to buy 1/2 a plumbing shop for polybutylene. I'm thinking the PEX is going to work, but I am not sure what is in the boat? Also I have found several sources on-line, but does anyone have a good one w/decent advice?

On line source?

Domestic water systems I've found to be the most difficult job, on my Cal 33, the mechanics at my marina have avoided doing any of the repairs instead offering other services because they know it's a difficult job. I've haven't found a good source for information or supplies, so if you have any online sources I'd be very interested. I have a leak somewhere between the sink and the shower, can't find the leak, so I'm currently replacing all the hoses.

A post on another forum yielded a reply that this is most likely polybutylene. There's good info at www.mhrv.com/qinstall.asp. They sell fittings. I have ordered from McMaster Carr (mcmastercarr.com) because I deal with them from my business. They are an industrial supply house. Ordered Acetal fittings, from the section on thermoplastic pipe fittings. Got some fittings for PEX tubing from a local RV place but I think they're going back because they have an internal barb, but these require a compression fit.
