Does anyone know how to obtain replacement fittings for the Hunter fresh water supply system? I have a 1990 35.5 with a crack in the pressure fitting connecting one of the supply lines to the head sink. No one seems to know where to find replacement fittings at my local West Marine and marine supplie store. Thanks in advance.

Try an RV supply

RV and boat fresh water systems are pretty much identical. Or better yet, find a real old fashioned hardware store. Not one of the retail "boxes" or any chain (though you might find the right size compression fittings--and btw, marine/RV fresh water plumbing is the same size as household water plumbing) at one of 'em), but kind of independent store that has all the widgets the help at the "boxes" never heard of...and where you can buy just the one you need, not a pack of 12. And the people who work there actually know what you do need, and which "workarounds" will work if they don't have the exact weird washer you came in for. Once you've found one of these wonderful hardware emporiums, you'll wonder how you ever got anything done without it.

CPI Fittings

I found a fitting for the rigid plastic fitting at a local plumbing supply house. It was called a Push & Turn fitting and made by a company called Consolidated Plumbing Industries out of Knoxville. TN. Try Google for their website.

Peggy, I have what looks like PB

grey tubing for my fresh water system, with screw-type compression fittings. Does that sound like what the boat ('87 H31) was built with or should have? Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

Quest!

I think that this stuff is Quest. I found the stuff at an ACE hardware, but I think that Home Depot has it too.

Sounds pretty standard ...

Everything has a lifespan...your boat is nearly 20 years old. It's not surprising that you might have to replace a compression fitting.

Qest pipe

Thanks for this tip. By doing some searching I found that it's actually called Qest and is polybutylene pipe. The description is exactly what I have. Apparently I can use copper fittings if I can't find the plastic.

There was a massive recall on this pipe

but if you aren't a lawyer, it works ok. It is difficult if not impossible to buy the fittings. Home Depot has some pipe but no fittings. At least none that I could find and I knew more about the store than the guy assisting me. A little place might have some like the aforementioned old fashioned hardware store. Might google it, too.

Is this a great blog or what!

Quickly proceeded from problem to solution to source to better source to product recall to practical consideration ("if you aren't a lawyer").

This stuff is still used extensively in RV's

While Patrick is correct about the law suit it is still used extensively in the RV & Boating industry. My understanding of the law suit had to do with using the stuff for high pressure applications (such as homes). They are now using a similar product in homes again. Cheaper & easier to install than rigid pipes.
