Here is a link of the USCG about the rescue and sinking of the French sailboat named ''TAO''. Many have met these folks when they were preparing the boat at Green Cove Springs marina in Florida this past winter. They had spent most of the winter in the Bahamas. They were crossing back to Europe. All crew members (3) are safe thanks to the EPIRB. So sorry for their loss. http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2163686/

Wow, not a single comment! Maybe it's the personal connection since numbers of this group know them? Abundance of caution? Don't want to be called an AA?
There has to be something to learn about this?
The picture I saw in the link showed the vessel down by the bow. Did it hit something which flooded the forward compartment? In a blue water boat built for ocean sailing (See recent threads about ocean sailing suitability) with bulkheaded compartments, should that have been a reason to lose the yacht?

The preliminary information that is coming out from friends of the crew is that they were in 60 knots winds and seas averaging 30 feet. It seems an abnormally large wave flipped the boat before or after demasting.

I hope I have the élan to try that when I'm 79.

Vive la France!

When I read the crew was 72, 79, and 79 years old ,I thought that rocked. Then I thought about the grumpiness factor and the head bring tied up for hours every morning. Yikes.
