My question to all is "Has anyone ever found a better replacement for the black plastic southco latches used in many locations on Hunter sailboats". As we all know they break easily and aren't cheap. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Our 1991 boat has them throughout and they work and hold up really well. The freezer lid on our boat has two. The female latch broke on one of them, so I replaced it several years ago. Worked for awhile then broke again. Reason was the male/female were misaligned and the male would break the female lever latch. Replaced the broken female latch five years ago and both have held up through lots of use. These plastic latches are very strong. Yours might be breaking because of the two being misaligned. All of our cabinets have them and none have broken through many years of regular use.
