We are expecting 20 year low temperatures in the San Fancisco Bay area later this week. Near the bay it is expected to go a few below freezing for a few days. My boat is in the water. I have no experience regarding at what temperature/duration of lows I should be concerned. I would also like to know if some kind of "lite winterization" is appropriate e.g never mind the water tanks, just drain the pipes. Thanks, John Brecher

Not a problem

We are in the Vancouver area and may see lows around -10C or 14 F tonight. I leave a small space heater on to keep and that seems to work. Some people winterize with antifreeze but most don't bother. One winter I did find a thin layer of ice in the toilet but no damage and it was colder. The other item I do is leave the taps open with the water pressure off.

Freeze

Keep your boat covered! Water intrusion in the deck or any vital parts could freeze and cause lifting and damage. Anti-freeze in the bilge and lowest parts of the inner hull are also important.
