free what good is my money if everything is free:yikes: i would read the fine print there has to be some strings attached somewhere or some ungodly demands about usage or the frequency of use or the venue

Yes, nothing is free. Only classics and newer models need apply. It's advertisement and they will want maximum sailing exposure plus a commitment to show up at certain events.

Yes but for free sails I might be talked into showing up at those events. and how do I complain about more sailing time LOL.

I signed up, now lets see what they offer me, if anything, and what the requirements are.

I bet this guy drives his vehicle around "for free" too! :) I saw this once while waiting at a laundromat in Torrance, California (SoCal).

It would be fun to take a ride in, but not to operate full-time. I would think that the same would apply on these sails too. Also, God only knows that they probably aren't the highest quality sails either.

OTOH, if you desperately need new sails, and you're very comfortable with advertising ... go for it I guess? :)

They've been around for years... it's not unlike having your boat in charter. They're going to tell you when and where to sail when they get a booking. You get the sails free and paid for the time your boat is in use. For some people it's a good deal, for others it doesn't make sense, just like charter.

Be the boat-whore for Coors beer??

Yuck. No thanks, I'd rather pay for sails. I've got more dignity (and hopefully more class) than that.

Keep us in the loop. Heck, I don't need much provocation to go sailing anyway. If the advertising money like the hot shot yacht club snob crowd is available to us peasants I'd go for it.

its a dirty job, but someone is gonna do it...

be assured that the sails arent so much quality as they are quantity... you may run a coors sail for an hour, then put up a budwiser sail or possibly a sears advertisment, ... then maybe switch to a sail advertising feminine napkins for the active woman for an hour or two...... or an advertisement for an auto dealership, or even worse, they may have you fly a sail advertising a toyota prius... and thats something I just couldnt do!

you would be sailing on their dime, and you would have to do it where, when and how they want you to...

This is from the manufacturer.

http://fabricgraphicsmag.com/articles/0311_ps_printed_sails.htmlAfter learning that existing sails and sailcloth could not be “printed” upon with traditional large-format equipment due to their cloth transparency, the 3-D shape and existing stitching, fittings and grommets, Kiss sought a new laminated and opaque cloth to replace traditional sailcloth. After exhaustive strength, stretch and UV testing, he found one recently developed by 3M.

Imaging is just one of seven steps in the creation of custom Photo Sails. Care is taken in every step to create a durable and proper airfoil that allows a vessel to sail in almost all points of the apparent wind. Variable load path technology aligns each cloth panel, and four different weights of cloth are utilized to keep weight to a minimum in a sport that takes each ounce of sail weight seriously.

“The original Photo Sails products were made of laminated PVC materials, but now Photo Sails has attracted the attention of North Sails, the world’s leader in sail manufacturing, which has requested development of 10 new products, including imaging on Mylar racing sails, spinnakers, Dacron, Taffeta, Nylon and various Polyester sailcloths. These new developments require completely new imaging applications that involve machinery that is being developed outside of the traditional large-format printers.”

Maybe I would get one like this LOL.

I heard somewhere they were giving that particular model away for free... no signup or contract at all necessary. it has something to do with an overstock due to a manufacturing defect...

That was genius, what better slogan than "Free Sails". With my luck I would be advertising hemorrhoidal cream, "For those long passages......"

I can't find your listing on our site... What size boat and where located?

OK Photo Sails, my ego doesn't need nourishment but my wallet is damn greedy. If a restored Oday 27 sailing Lake Ontario is of any interest post your email. I'd be a beeyotch for more sails. As an aside I joined a Meetup.com group and host many people throughout the season who post photos of their adventures aboard YOT.

I actually think this is pretty cool. Maybe I won't get beat up like Phil did back in March over this, but depending on what was on the sail, why not. I don't think it would be very classy to have something like Butterball Turkeys on a sail, but some things yes..

It would be the same for my hats. I have never bought a hat in my life. If an advertiser wants to buy the hat for me, I will wear it. Unless except for the aforementioned turkey slight..

:dancing::dancing:I tried, but had no success, getting similar sponsorship when I was skydiving. Only a few were lucky enough to have get a gig like that. One guy got a hooters deal which paid him to travel around and skydive at various events and he was greeted with a full ground crew of hooters girls.

By the way if anyone from Hooters wants to supply sails for my boat and send a "crew" along. I may just be your guy!!!!
