is all random chance. Did you see the show on thunder where the guy got caught in a mirco burst a few mile out in the Chesy. He was in an older power boat. Lighting struck his VHF antennia mounted on the roof above his head. It blow a hole in the roof and hit him in the head. He was smart. He know he was hurt. He couldn't hear or see good. He drove the boat onto a sandy beach close by. Good thing he was inside.

Update, for those interested

I think "Natasha" has sailed. I was down at Tampa General this noon looking for Patrick. The location where I thought the boat was is open. Just to check to see if I could see him I had lunch at Ballast Point. The bay was a beautiful glass mirror today with very little wind. Off in the distance on the far shore, one lone boat ridding high in the water with full sails was headed south to Apollo Beach. If this was him, he is doing fine but may have to use his motor more than he figured. If the wind picks up I am going to try and find him off of Clearwater tomorrow, unless someone has other information.

Ya know, having read this thread now...

If I did all the stuff some of you folks suggest and waited until I had all the stuff aboard you suggested, I'd have never sailed anywhere. I'd still be driving by the marina dreaming about sailing.

Thanks for the update

Paul. I wish he would have taken you or Ed up on your offer to follow him, but he seems pretty self reliant, you have to give him credit for that. Im glad he has a weather window at least. Keep us posted!!

Charlie is right on the money

I carry all of the basic safety equipment req'd by law for 2 reasons. One..because its the law and two...they are reasonable items that could possibly save lives someday. I carry only some of the optional stuff. The stuff I can afford. To steal Charlie Cobra's line "If I did all the stuff some of you folks suggest and waited until I had all the stuff aboard you suggested, I'd have never sailed anywhere. I'd still be driving by the marina dreaming about sailing" Tony B
