Ants in his pants

This guy must have been in a real hurry to get that boat to Florida.

I'd like to think I'd have spent a day or so on the boat looking around and straightening out a few things before hopping in, casting the lines and sailing south. Especially if I'd paid just $157.50 for the boat.

Takes all kinds.

Glad he's OK. Could've turned out lots worse.

He's a moron, plain and simple.

Let's see, I don't have the mechanical aptitude to effect a simple repair but I'll take an unknown boat out at night? I have enough bologna for an army but I don't have a flashlight on a midnight cruise? I'll drop an anchor, three miles out in 120 feet of water in windy conditions requiring a 7:1 scope, about 850 feet of line but I don't know enough about rope to lash the boom to the mast to get me home or at least to a point of safety. I don't know enough about sailing to know that a kicker, regardless of how small, is a necessity for safety's sake.

Though his $157 yacht was probably no real prize, it didn't let him down, he let it down and his stupidity just cost the taxpayer's big bucks in a needless rescue. I'm glad he's OK, but I hope is scares him off the water. The Coast Guard should be free to help people that have gotten into hot water, not change the diapers of people who had no business being out there. Like people who hike the Grand Canyon without water, or hunt an unknown wilderness with no map, compass or GPS: then call for a rescue. It's called taking responsibility for yourself.

This coming from me, a guy that thought a Cunningham was one of Richie's relatives and an out haul was when my dad found me at that party. I began sailing inexperienced but prepared, both on board with all the equipment required and recommended and in my head with months of reading and watching; plenty of theory yearning for application. For all the mishaps I've had (and they have been voluminous) I have overcome through common sense and preparing for mishaps.

I don't know why but this quote from the article struck me funny.

"No, I don't have any of that certification," Williams said. "But I've been on plenty of boats. When I was a kid, my family even sailed to Europe on our own boat. So, I am more than sure that I have all of the experience it would take to pass one of those."

The world would be a nice place if everyone did that.
No more of that, Oh am I being stupid....?

An idiot of the "nth" degree. As said before, a ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY DOLLAR BOAT? You know, an old rag can be a deal if a man wants to sit it on the hill for awhile and fix it up. But to take out on it? Where are all the dam sharks?
This clown will probably procreate. Sadly. Consider the math. A decade from now, and it's an entire trailer-park.

And God bless the C.G.

And equip them with SAM missiles..

"There were so many people who wanted her," Williams said in a telephone interview Sunday night. "But I got her."

I've met guys with wives like that.

Hey, at least he had a radio and knew how to use it.

Amazing...

An explorer fit for a reality tv show, balls of steel, an intellect that could rival Honey Boo Boo. I admire his leap-before-looking mentality, however, I'm also frightened knowing that if you gaze into the abyss the abyss gazes into you...and so I leave this thread....thanks for sharing that article.

Hell, I'm nervous every time I go out due to the unknowns, or "ughknowns" as I like to refer to them.

I like to think that I know enough to know what to be afraid of.

This guy didn't have any common sense, and it damn near killed him. Glad he's on the ocean, and not on my lake!
