Get ready to spend 10 to 20 large

on a new diesel. What size diesel was on the boat. You want to go bigger. Older boats were under powered. I would recommend a Yanmer two banger 15 HP at a minium and the three banger 27 as the maxium. It is nice to be able to hit haul speed when cruising long distances.

Sitting on the bottom? Yes, our winter tides are

usually quite low. Don't loose sight of the task at hand and start wandering about. The purpose of cleaning the inside of the cabin is to be able to see and determine the soundness of the hull, so you can check for leaks, check through the hull valves, check keel bolts and packing gland and tube. Start talking to the PO or Marina Rep about "Title Papers" . Rmember at this point you are just cleaning someone elses boat for free. After you determine hull integrity then move on to the next phase which would be to get it ready to be moved. Figure out how to provide interior structural support for the hull, check the steering system (I thought you said the rudder was stuck) Test the standing rigging and mainsail running riggin. I would hihgly advise you purchase an unlimited towing insurance from BOATUS or SEA TOW before you venture out. It may be the best $100 you spend. It seems you are set in strapping an outboard to that hull; undertand the boat will handle very bad under power. The engine will lack the torque to adequately allow you to manuever the boat against wind or current or in close quarters. The Gulf waters in New Port Ritchie are shallow with poorly marked channels; consider taking someone with local knowledge with you. What is the draft of the boat? Don't start shining the bell or hanging a pennant until you get the basics done to safely transport it so you can start the real work. Good luck.

Jim....

Where did u ever get the 15 to 27 HP from? 15HP on an 33 OI would be close to useless? Are these the engine HP Ratings that were originally on these boats? I would think that a 27 is still probably too low.

is this serious?

Maybe I'm getting too cynical in my old age - I was willing to play along until I read where he says he is a nurse but doesn't know about disinfection with "bleech" [sp], wants to put a couch in the boat and begins working austensibly hard before taking ownership - coupled with the consistently dubious use of the English language by a nurse, this sounds pretty strange, doesn't it?
