Found Odor Source........ Duh!

Peggy - I wrote a while back about the possibility of head odor coming from a loose vent line, 'cause the odor flooded the cabin when the head was pumped. You suggested (rightly, of course!) that the hose may be the problem. Well, this past weekend I was able to play Nautical Domestic and get into the system. The vent was fine, but the hose............ it must have been original, 20-year-old hose!!!! And it was a black rubberized material labeled "water system"! You know, I've said quite a few times that this hose replacement scenario is a "non-habit-forming experience", and here I'm doing it for the THIRD time in as many boats! Thanks for all your helpful advice, Peggy! Half the job is done, the other half next weekend, and I'm confident the odor will be dispelled. Michael O'

Suggestion for your 4th boat...

Stipulate that the seller must replace the sanitation hoses as a condition of sale. Offer to supply the hose if necessary (or just to make sure it's not such cheap stuff you'll have to do again soon), but he has to do the work or hire it done.

Good Idea if Do-able

As with this boat, the offer/counter-offer process boiled down the to PO not wanting to do anything but discount the price to complete the two negotiated work items. In his behalf, I gotta' say the boat was exceptionally clean, and with few, very few, flaws. Of course the hose is one of 'em......... Also, for a lot of these maintenance items, I'd rather do it myself and be more confident in the work! Thanks again, Peggy! Michael O'
