Just joined a sailing club on a beautiful lake in NW AR. Our 222 got respectable nods from the old salts. Some asked, "Is that the boat from dock X that the "Jones" have had for years?" Well, No....what boat?.......Well we checked her out, a genuine silver anniversary 1984 222 just rotting away at the end of the dock! A sad day for sure. I will have to snap a pic to post, otherwise you wouldn't believe it! :-( MB

Sad but true
It's a sad thing to see a boat rot into a wreck. I have my brother's Harley Davidson. I just went and told him it was mine and gave him about $1400. 1983 Full Dress FLH. It never saw a garage in 16 years. Rust and corrosion everywhere. It's looking fair now, but will need another $1k to be good looking again. Why do they do it? They spend thousands, and then after a few years, just let it ( whatever it is ) rot into junk. I just passed on a 22' Morgan sailboat. It was just too far gone for me to fix. What a beautiful boat. Classic lines, lovely swooping shape. The Morgan made my O"Day 25 look like a tub in compairison. It was just too far gone. Needed to be re-topped. Sad sad sad sad. Post a pic.

It happens sometimes
I know the frustration of seeing something decay. My folks let their 22 sit unused on their property for couple years. I'm workign on it now, but was uncovered, under a bunch of trees, and facing downhill so rainwater didn't drain out. I finally got tired of sitting idle with the elements taking their toll, so I convinced them to let me assume custody and get it in ship-shape again. In their defense, the resevoirs where they did trailer sailing have been very low the last few years, and it is very difficult for my dad to rig it by himself. They also didn't expect some of the damage that occurred, nor the invasion of mice. They just didn't have time to sail it but didn't want to get rid of it either. Sometimes people just don't know how to fix things and don't want to pay for them so they just use it up until it's gone.

But why would you continue to pay club dues + dockage fee? It makes no sense. But people have reasons, I know. A heartbreaker in any case. MB

1984 222 silver anniversary edition
we found this 222 that had been sitting lopsided on a trailer unused for a few years. I had to compund polish (3 coats) and wax (2 coats)the hull, redo the teak, fix centerboard, install new rigging and new motormount. But she is in fine shape now, check out my photos under 222
