We have fouled the swing keel cable on our 1977 Cat.22. The keel clunks as it is lowered and now, near the end, the cable is fouled on the winch. I do not have the ability to put it on a trailer, so it is in the water. when the tide goes out, i can put cinder blocks underneath to take up the weight. don't know if that will help. any ideas? Thanks! Hal

I had the same problem.

Hal, Push, pull or motor your boat into shallow water so the keel is supported on the ocean bottom (unless you are on rock)& the keel cable has no tension. When the cable is loose on the winch drum use a screw driver to free the cable overlap. The more slack cable you can get, the easier it is to untangle. As you suggest, you could use the dropping tide too. Regards from Canada.

use a winch

Drop the center of a line down over the bow and walk back the ends on each side of the boat to the headsail winches. Use the sheet winches to lift the keel.
