I recently purchased 1994 Catalina 22 with 150 fuler jib. The forward life lines are connected to the top of bow pulpit. Would it be better if I extened them to the forward bottom to allow more room for jib ????? If so do I have to buy new life lines,or, can I purchase short sections to extend?? Thanks.

interesting

I think that the ease of doing this depends upon your pulpit. If this is an example of your lifelines and bow pulpit: http://www.catalinayachts.com/yachts.cfm?act=model&id=15 You may need to change the length of the lifelines to make them fit if you attach them to a different location. Another option is to not have the lifelines on the forward section but then you need to weigh the safety considerations and the rear lifelines need to be mounted so that the forwardmost stanchion isn't being pulled loose towards the stern. One other thing to consider may be to attach a line from the tack of the sail to the bow plate to raise the jib a few inches so that more of it clears the lifeline but I'm not sure about whether you can do this with your furling gear or whether you actually want to do this.
