Forward Hatch Replacement

When we purchasd Grasshopper II - a 1994 H 26 - we noticed that the center front hatch was cracked. We purchased a replacement from Hunter - it's in and I'm getting ready to install.My question - assuming that it's not pre-drilled from Hunter - is this something that a mere mortal can do - or should I leave it to the professionals at the marina? I've been warned by my dealer that the Plexiglass (I assume) is very fragile and that, unless drilled correctly - it will certainly crack.IF some of you have done this yourselves - what tips could you pass on to an eager new owner such as I?Thanks all.Tom GrassCarlyle Lake, Illinois

Hatch, Last Weekend

Just replaced the forward hatch on my H26 last weekend. It was ordered from Hunter direct and was ready in about a week, predrilled and ready to install. The only item of concern was the small sealant rings that fit underneath the SS washers and screws that hold the hardware on. Be careful and use a flat blade screwdriver to GENTLY loosen the washers from the top surface of the old hatch, and then remove the sealant and replace back into the underside of the washer. The screw compression will hopefully create a watertight seal. I was careful and lucky, water test and sail. Good luck.

Hi you all!How much did you pay for the replacement?Its the original curved one ?How long they took to deliver ?I wanted to install a solar vent on my hatch,since it is cracked anyway,to see how it works on keeping things fresh and unsmelly.do you think its a wise idea ?Thanks for any coments.Ulises.

Cost of the Hatch

Ulises,In St. Louis we paid $170 for the hatch (pre-drilled - thank goodness!) and $16 for freight. Don't know about installing the fan in the hatch ... GH II has a fan just forward of the mast.Good Luck -Tom Grass
