How can I find a replacement for the forward hatch on my 1981 Hunter 27? It is not rectangular. The hatch in the main cabin was rectangular and easy to find at Boat US but I cannot find the forward one. They were both made by Gray Enterprises.

I went through the same problem on my 1978 H-27. The orig hatch is not longer made. And the trapizoidal hatches from all of fabricators don't fit the existing cutout. I checked with Hunter, and just about everywhere else. I replaced mine with a Bomar square hatch. It came out great. If you are interested contact me at AOL and I can fax you the directions on how to fit the square hatch. Nelsonhow@aol.com

I am going through the same exercise
and have checked at least fifteen different places. My marina has exhausted their sources, too. The thing is just a weird shape and size compared to any available today. I removed mine, resealed it all and found a way to work a washer/thumbtab onto the broken flat plate to hold it down. Problem is, I have to be the one to do the sealing up each time. Fair Winds..... Proper Measuring of Hatches for Replacement
My hatches and ports are all watertight/proof -believe me they have been tested by Mother Nature this late Spring & early Summer!! How should the hatches be measured to exact the dimensions from manufacturers? Are the measurements taken from the frame or from the hatch cover itself? Thank you for your reply. s/v "LOTUS"

I had the same problem, the plastic hinge snapped and I ordered a trapezoidal hatch from bomar to replace.. I started replacing it friday, but it rained and rained all weekend. hopefully this week, it will be finished.. it isn't an exact fit. I have someone who's very good at fiberglass grinding out the opening and installing it for me. email me and I will send a pic when its done.. the bomar hatch is expensive, but on the plus side, I'll never have to replace the hatch again. thanks
