I need suggestions on how to fix the squeaky forward berth. My wife and I spend alot of nights on our '85 Catalina 36. But with every movement the boards under the mattress squeak very loudly. Has anyone figured out how to silence the noise?

I have a similar situation in my hunter - but the squeaks come from the dock lines. Could that be your problem (assuming you are referring to sleeping aboard at the dock)

...carried in hardware stores that's made specifically for the squeeks.

with all respect, I am thinking that the boards
are thin and have alot of deflection.
Beef up the boards and spend the lubricant money on the motor/ engine.
Boards that deflect move, the friction and even internal movement within the board makes noise. Beat the noise, beef up the boards...

Ditto what Ross and RW said. Boards that move, often squeak. Boards that don't flex or move don't make noise. 
Replace the wood with a thicker piece, bead with silicon sealer, and screw down. That should quiet the squeek down so you may hear the halyard slap.
