My Forum Replys ocassionally (not always) begin in mid sentence. How do I scroll up to read the entire reply? Bud

When that happens, I think you'll find

that the header starts the sentence, as it does in this reply.

Good sleuthing!

That made me laugh... I, of course, was looking for the technical reason! ph.

The explanation Peggy offers is correct, but makes the practice no less annoying, in my opinion! I often have to re-read message that are posted that way.

Peggy. that's the way...

...that some of us save valuable space. No aggravation here! ;)

JV, I post that way a lot. I had no idea it was

annoying. :) No one has yelled about it until now. They just didn't understand to hook the lead to the body. Sorry. :)

To JV

Sign up for the beta test forums (soon to be the only forums) -- the subject line and first line of copy are right next to each other, makes this kind of post really easy.

You can sure tell it's mid-winter!

It happens every January... there isn't a topic posted in which "The Great Goofy Winterbound Fleet" can't find something to argue or complain about! :)

True sailors never argue or complain!

They merely discuss and offer constructive criticism. Admittedly, sometimes loudly and with a little less tact than might otherwise be desired. But, thank goodness for this list until the temeratures rise (as long as the tempers don't <grin>).

Search engines and archive behavior???

A question for Phil... Does the engine search beyond the title for information? It would seem that some very extraneous material might surface on an archive inquiry, (and valuable info passed over), if it only searches the 'lead-in line' on many of the titles...

Dale: searching

Are you asking about search engines (i.e., Google) our our archive search fucntion? If you're asking about our archive search, you just check the box to sedarch the title, author, or body of the post, or all three. The default is title only. ph.

Phil, there may actually be a slight tech glitch

Some posts in the replies column drop the initial subject line. Iow, instead of "response to (for instance) Sailing Schools," all that shows is "response to" ...the rest is blank, leaving the reader with no clue what topic the poster is replying to. Otoh, the problem could be at my end...just not showing up on my computer sometimes.

Peggie, the same thing is happening to me.

I often have to hit 'refresh' to see an update. And when I 'edit' a previous post, (I do that often) the change only shows up after the first view. All succeeding changed views require refreshing.

Peggie and Fred

Peggie: when viewing forum posts, does the address include a directory named 'forum' or 'forum2'? Fred: Assuming you are using Internet Explorer as your browser, open Internet Options --> Advanced --> Cache, then select 'Always.' Your browser is 'memorizing' the page it it hits first, then laoding subsequent hits from its memory rather than our server. Reload, or this setting, should help. ph.

Not sure what you mean, Phil

I just always go the list of posts in the last 24 hours and scroll down the headers...and btw, I guess I'm a washout as a beta tester, 'cuz I'm still using the original format.

Phil, I couldn't find 'cache' on that tab,

Under Options---General---Temporary Internet files--settings----Check for newer versions of stored pages, mine is set to 'Automatically. Should I change it to 'every visit'? OK, I did it. Test #1 Test#2 PHIL it didn't refresh again for Test#2. Now it did! Weird. But either way, it's OK for me Phil, don't waste your time.

Fred and Peggie (part II)

Fred: yes, set temporary internet files to Always. Peggie: In the address bar (right under your borwser buttons) in the full address of the page you're viewing. At approx. the middle of that long address is either /forums/ or /forums2/ -- either look familiar? ph.
