Forstay Hunter 26

The roller furring on my Hunter 26 does not attach to the flange that the forestay would normally attach to but to the upside down u joint at the bow. I also have quite a bit of mast rake towards the rear. It appears to be a mistake when the previous owner put the RF on.
What is normal for the rake and the attachment point? Is it worth shortening the cable for?
All opinions appreciated. I have been sailing this way for 4 years and it bugs me each time I raise the mast.

h26 forestay

If you are attached to the u bolt on the hull/deck flange then it is wrong. That u bolt is for an asymmetrical spinnaker. The chainplate behind it on the tip of the bow is for the forestay and furler. If you have more than 4'' of rake when connected then you will have to adjust the length of the forestay. Here is a look at correct positioning of the furler.

That's what I thought, but if I attach where it is supposed to be big time rake.

Is the rake way back or forward. Do you know how to get into the furler to adjust the turnbuckle.

Dave, the mast rakes toward the rear of the boat. I have not looked at the roller furring as far as adjusting, but the original installation instructions came with the boat. I'm fairly mechanical so I expect I can figure it out. How much rake (if any) is desired.

The key for me in the beginning was to set the forestay turnbuckle studs in the turnbuckle about 1/3 as a starting point . In addition, I am not sure if your rig is overtight as well. There are a lot of things to look at and as one photo above is the furling line needs to come out so it clears the drum hole as you do not want it to chafe which will cause the furler to furl in harder.
