Hi all, I've posted a picture in the 170 photos section of our former h170 next to our new boat- a Compac 19. It's a neat comparison. I think the beam on the two is the same ---around 7 feet wide- but otherwise the proportions are different. I'm also trying to post a photo on this current post of the Compac after its new paint job-- replacing its original 1987 "brown" with a nice burgundy. Happy sailing, all. Mike G. s/v Freebird

I'm completely digital photo/computer interface illiterate, but somehow I also just posted several photo links of my boat painting project on the Compac Owners website! Appreciate your compliment on my new "baby"! We've located a marina here in FL where we're going to dryslip her. The Hunter 170 was about as much boat as I could easily trailer, rig, de-rig and trailer back home again for a one-day sail. The Compac's just too heavily built/big to make this doable. The good news is the dryslip is only $25. more a month than our currently ministorage outdoor slip in town- completely landlocked. Whereas the dryslip is 100 feet from the water and the mast is stepped at all times- ready to go! Hope everyone's summer of sailing is going well. We're headed to my parents' lake house in MN next week for some truly smallcraft sailing (my dad's Laser). Sailing fun comes in all shapes and sizes! Best regards, Mike G.

Thanks Jerry et al, Yeah, Gerry Hutchins has done a superb job on everything about his Compacs. They're incredibly tough, stable, fun to sail and easy to trailer. But the 1987 brown stripe color was one less than stellar selection, in my judgment. The deck awlgrip is mid tan and the hull color a very light tan- so brown wasn't a totally backwards choice- but it wasn't an eye-pleaser either. I agree burgundy is alot more lively. Mike
