We've heard from a number of site users lately, asking if and when we intend to upgrade the forum layout to a more modern format. It's true, forum design has come a long way since rev 1.0 of this one, back in 1996! So, we've designed a new way to view posts keeping the concept of our current format, with the advantages of the new ones: - All posts and replies appear on the same screen... far less clicking and waiting for pages to load - A clickable list of replies so there's not too much scrolling - Easier to see who posted what - Nav links at the top of the screen instead of the middle - Less server resources needed, so the whole site should run faster - Adjustable width, can use up to the full width of your browser To give it a try, click the link below (or the Related Link). Then add your comments to the thread. Thanks! http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=441&sku=2003324022202.2

And here's a reply

This is how replies work... they list down the screen (and are listed as links on the right. Now, this is all new, so before you react give it a few minutes and a few clicks. Also, for the more adventurous: You can view any thread in this format by changing the following part of the address: Find: pview.tpl Change it to: pviewall.tpl

I'm old, I'm scared... AND all I see is a blank

I found this screen by clicking Related Link

What I sent a few minutes ago was what came up when I clicked on the web address. Now I REALLY AM confused ;>) Tom

I'm old and hate changes, but,,,

This is one for the better. It may take a while to get used to it, but the new format streamlines the process of following threads. I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but, now can you put the pictures in the photo forum in-line with the text? In any case, thanks for providing a great place for us to go to exchange ideas.

Not sure that. . .

I can see the advantage. Looks like a lot of other sites and I always thought "sailboatowners" was way ahead. Maybe it will grow on me. I like the idea that you still have the choice to go directly to a response, that you do not have to scan to the bottom of 75 replies(the gun thread). But the "reply list" on the right seems out of order in your sample. Is it supposed to be newest to oldest, top down?

I like it!

Phil, The new way looks great. The old way looks great. Whatever you choose is fine by me. This is a great website! Thank you. Jack s/v Friendship C350, #80

Very nice..

I've been in the habit for some time of clicking on the print line anyway in order to make all of the replies appear on one screen. I'm frequently on a slow dial-up from somewhere in the hinterlands and the one screen was simpler. This does it for me. I'm one of the grumpy ole men on here, but so far so good. But, I like the old colors better. The yellow always wakes me up in the AM! Thanks for all the hard work Phil.

I'm seeing a blank screen too, Tom

Thought it might be just a Netscape issue, but it's blank in IE too. Both are the most current versions, btw.

Plus Minus

Phil, 1. I get a blank screen if I click on the actual URL, but if I click on the related link I get it. I have Internet Explorer. 2. Format is very easy to read, less time loading etc. (as advertised) 3. I have played around and I don't see a way to look at additional responses to topics that are older and that I have read previously (24 hour forum). The other forums seem to have a list of the topics, am I missing something here? 4. I can "cope" with ANY format. The info here is too valuable to worry about that. THANKS for your time, effort, perseverance, etc. in providing this service.

Interesting graphic...

When I click on the link, I get a graphic apparently of Casper the friendly ghost surrounded by twelve members of the Ku Klux Klan in the midst of a blinding snowstorm throwing cotton balls and marshmallows at one another as a polar bear watches from the north. Not sure, but there may be a sail on the horizon. Either that, or it's a blank screen.

All kidding aside, Phil...

This is great work you do, giving us quick and easy access to each other for the latest ideas and commentary. Good for you!

Same as some others

New format is fine, but so is current format. Whatever you think best is OK with me - your judgement has worked so far. I access using either corporate T-1 or cable modem, so speed isn't an issue for me. Can see where the new format would be better for dial-up users. Get a blank screen when clicking typed URL but get the page when click Related Link. Tom

Photo, colors, and blank screens

1. The url in my post was faulty... clicking related Link will work. Sorry about that! This software we use struggles with ampersands! 2. In-line photos. I'll have to look at how some other sites do this... but so many pix that we get are 1000, or even 2000 pixels wide (for reference, this column is about 450 pixels wide). believe me, you wouldn't want them inline. Now, there may be a way to edit them automatically but we don't have the software to do that yet. 3. Colors. No change there, this is jumping over to SailboatOwners.com so what you're seeing are the colors for that site, not the one you came from. ph.

I like it!

I'm assuming that it only worked for this thread because this is the only thread that's on it yet?
