60% of responding Catalina owners have had some form of formal sailing training, according to last week's Quick Quiz. Where did you find the most benefit? Power Squadron, ASA certification, or a good local sailing school? Was classroom training beneficial, or was an on-the-water curriculum better for you? Write your thesis here.

My wife and I took an Annapolis 3-day course on Rainbow 25's in San Diego Bay in 1982. They started each day with an hour or two of classroom instruction followed by several hours on the water. That combination was excellent. Probably better than any single class in some 20 years of classic education. Dick K.

In 1984 I did a 10 day ASA Offshore Coastal Cruising and navigation class. We left Miami and sailed straight thur to Keywest far offshore and then island hopped and ICW back to Miami. It gave you a feel for living on a boat and learned a lot..we did the book work and then practiced it over and over.. we anchored out and slept on the hook some and stayed at some marinas..all in all it was a great learning trip
