I've decided I want to add a roller furling headsail to my boat.
Figuring out which CDI is no big deal (FF6) Budget and practicality are driving the CDI choice, The decision on what size, style/design and maker for the sail is still in flux but I'm getting it narrowed down, got the list pared down to only 7-8 choices from the original 8-9.
So I still have to measure my forestay to get good numbers for the sail when it finally slaps me in the face. My forestay has the wrong type of turnbuckle to be able to install a CDI furler. well....crap.

The forestay is perfectly serviceable for my hank on sials and I don't want to go weeks with the boat out of commission so I'm really wanting to do this without taking the stay down and sending it off to be copied with the needed style of turnbuckle and I'm out of my depth at this point.
Do I need measurements from the swaged eye pin at the top or the pin in the crane?
At the bottom I'm thinking the pin at the bottom. How accurate do my measurements need to be? +/- 1", 1/4" or ???
Another question, if I wanted to step up form the original 3/16" size to 7/32" would I also need to upsize the backstay at the same time?

why not ask the furler people all these questions and get an education in the process....won't hurt

Not much to ask CDI, the FF6 will work on up to a 39' forestay, mine is about 37', it will work with up to 1/4" wire, I currently have 3/16", the foil will allow up to 7/16" for the turnbuckle, I'm stopped there with my 7/8" hence the desire to change out the stay. So not really a furler question but a rigging question.

they know there rigging .......and i bet they would know what to tell you on your questions some one had to figure out how to rig in order to make a furler most furler companies are good at rigging if they aren't i would not want their product......

..... So not really a furler question but a rigging question.
You're trying to match your current rigging to their furler... that's a question you should ask CDI. They may have a part or fitting or adapter to solve the issue. You must, at the very least, ask them their opinion.

"fitting or adapter"
Possible, I will try to contact CDI. But, and I admit this is an area out of my depth, I can't for the life of me see how there could be an adapter that will let the CDI foil spec'd at 7/16" for being able to slide over the nearly 7/8" turnbuckle piece I have.
