Forestay questions

Dear hive mind, I seek your counsel.

I recently had a a forestay disaster. I need to replace the critter. The question is: is the cable 3/16th’s? In diameter?

Everything I’m finding says the length is 36. Correct?

You should be able to find the size and length in your owner’s manual. Your mast has to come down, so you can measure it then too. Many rigging shops will have an archive of measurements too, but you have the actual boat.
That looks like it created a very tense, frightening moment!

Looks like you have a furler, that may or may not affect the length. On my Mac I had to shorten it to add a toggle. Other furlers use the original stay I think. Just be aware.

You can always leave it long, and use a compression fitting to finish it on the boat. I don't have the spec, but 3/16 is a reasonable size for that boat. I agree with Justin_NSA, every furler installation is slightly different, so I would either leave it long or measure very carefully. We have a great rig shop here.
Did you get halyard wrap? Do you have a halyard restrainer?

I have what may be dimensions for the early models (1979-?) 28, but fore stay is listed as: 37'5" long (eye-to-eye, with turnbuckle fully closed) 7/32" 1x19 SS wire. #7 eye on one end, turnbuckle on other.

Hi folks, been a long winter and between work and trying to restore a car, I'm finally getting back at my forestay issue...

The nice fella at West Marine is asking me to retrieve the Stem ball from the top. Anyone have any idea as to the manufacturer of that critter? (and save me a trip up the mast?)
