FORESAIL RIGGING

I've got a 2004 H260. When I took the foresail down last fall, I don't remember if I had a shackle of some sort on the line for the head connection. I'm sitting 100 miles away from the boat having an anxiety attack because I'm sure when I looked at the line yesterday, I recall that it only had a bare end with nothing on it. When I raise the jib, tucked up into the CDI furler forestay, if I don't have a mechanical fastener on the line, what sort of a knot do I use to tie on the sail head? Also, because I have the furler, does that render my red jib halyard useless for raising the sail? I'm going out tomorrow for the first time this year. It should be the first good weekend day we've had up here in the midwest. All you year-round sailors should know just how good you have it. Thanks in advance for any advice I can get.

When you raise the mast the Roller Furler headsail forestay slips into a slot at the top of the mast. No shackle needed. The red halyard is used with the mainsheet and a gin pole to raise the mast. The drum of the roller furler has a two prong fitting that pins into the second (aft) hole at the base of the pulput. All you need is a pin to attach the roller furler. There is quite a bit of information on this subject in the archives. Also you can check out this link for a checklist on stepping the H260 mast. http://www.kobernus.com/hunter260_web/checklist/checklists.htm

Thanks, George

I've conquered all the things that you mentioned (for now, until I have to lower and raise the mast again). I was pretty intimidated doing it alone the first time. My problem now is the simple act of how to physically attach the head of the jib itself to the furler halyard. I understand that the red jib halyard is not needed when there a jib furler present. Do I use a knot or is there a shackle of some sort on the line?

Tie it on with a bowline...

no shackle needed. Here's a link to a CDI manual with diagrams.

Come on George

How about some info about your photo of the "bent" mast.

Aft base hole

Based on something I picked up in the archives, I've been attaching the H260 furler in the forward hole. Found that the aft hole was easier to pin and it does not seem to make any difference in performance of the sail. Talked to my dealer who said use the aft hole, the forward hole is for a forestay/hanked jib. Works for me.
